πŸ“œ Session Recap

The Haversham Heist

What Happened

Reunited in Porthaven, the first thing the party does is attempt to rob a local collector of rare books. They actually pull it off, but Coster Fre happened to be in attendance and, of course, he noticed them. The next day the Festival of Dormius is in full swing. Kiernan tells everyone he is going to take some of the nieces and nephews to the market square to see the Grand Gift of Dormius and to enjoy the festivities (The Grand Gift of Dormius is a massive ornate present wrapped in velvet ribbon). He suggests that you join him. "You know, it's traditional to bring gifts to friends and families. The littles will be expecting presents. Just sayin'..." Kiernan and his niece and nephew disappear while looking at the Grand Gift. Oh no! The Grand Gift is a mimic!

The party springs into action, taking on the mimic and slaying it handily. Corster, however, has found them again. After the battle, Corster Fre makes his move. With a small group of hired mercenaries, he confronts the party: He reveals he knows they sold the Grimoire and threatens to turn them in. He suggests that if the party is not going to collect the locket, then they will have to repay him in a different way. He's arranged a little outing for them, escorting some diplomats to Germonia. There will be a young girl traveling with them. The party should take particular care with the girl and make sure she arrives in Germonia safely. They should gather whatever supplies they need today. They'll be heading out tomorrow. Corster suggests discussing which route the party wants to take. He will either charter a river boat for them or hire wagons. They can travel by river and then across the Frozen Sea (two weeks but more perilous due to pirates, unpredictable weather, and creatures lurking in the icy waters) or overland through Sithean (six weeks but safer).

The party opts for the water route. The party does some last minute shopping before their departure. The next day the players arrive at a modest port on the Dragonspine River. Ships dock here to load cargo and transport travelers northward. Corster introduces the party to Captain Orlenna Windreaver (Half-Elf, experienced and gruff river captain). β€œI don’t take fools or freeloaders. You pay upfront, and you pull your weight if we run into trouble.” The party boards a sleek river skiff (faster but cramped and more expensive).
