Emperor Kusco

The Living Sun — The Sovereign of Micchu — The Boy on the Golden Throne

“Why should I concern myself with the dirt when the mountain itself was carved to catch my light?”

At a Glance

Emperor Kuzco rules the isolated mountain kingdom of Micchu, an island nation rising dramatically above the Boundless Blue and the Cerulean Sea. Within the divine cosmology of Once, Kuzco descends through the mortal royal line originating from Adam and Eve, established under the overarching order of the One God, which eventually manifested as the sacred solar dynasty of the Incan throne. He is currently living and actively rules as the undisputed sovereign and living avatar of the sun god, Inti. In disposition, he leans toward Chaotic Neutral, driven almost entirely by self-indulgent whims, acute vanity, and an absolute conviction that the world exists to entertain him, though he possesses an undercurrent of genuine, albeit buried, charisma. His domain encompasses imperial sovereignty, solar spectacle, divine excess, and aesthetic vanity. His recognized symbols include the blazing golden sun disk, the imperial royal standard, and architectural sketches of water slides and sun terraces.

Lineage and Upbringing

Kuzco was born inside the gleaming gold-walled enclosures of the Sun Palace, perched high above the clouds on the highest peak of Micchu. Raised from birth to believe his existence was the axis upon which the seasons turned, he never experienced denial, hardship, or the practical realities of mortal life. While the One God’s mortal line spread across Once to build kingdoms of iron, stone, and rigid law, the dynasty of Micchu channeled their solar lineage into an absolute theocracy. Surrounded by bowing courtiers, flattering scribes, and priests singing daily hymns over offerings of fine woven gold and chicha maize beer, Kuzco grew up viewing the empire not as a people to govern, but as a stage set built solely for his amusement.

The Kuzcotopia Crisis and the Common Realm

Despite his absolute power, Kuzco remains entirely detached from the fragile administrative framework that keeps Micchu functioning. While he spends his days composing royal choreographies, testing palace bathhouses, and dismissing petitioners, the agrarian lifeblood of the island is reaching a breaking point. His latest vanity project—a lavish hilltop pleasure estate named “Kuzcotopia,” designed with private water flumes and manicured gardens—is slated directly on top of a generational farming community led by the Kuraka, Pacha.

Because Kuzco perceives the land as an extension of his personal wardrobe, he remains blind to the geopolitical storm brewing beneath the mountain terraces. Peasant collectives threaten to withhold seasonal grain tributes, which would starve the lower coastal ports and expose the island’s secluded borders to raiders, smugglers, and merchant fleets arriving from the Realm of Grimm and Tirulia across the Boundless Blue.

Shadows in the Sun Palace: The Vizier’s Ambition

Because Kuzco treats governance as an inconvenience, practical administrative power has rested for decades in the hands of the Imperial Vizier, Yzma. Where Kuzco represents mortal arrogance shielded by divine right, Yzma traces her lineage back through the alchemical witch-lines of Mal’s Gray Magick and Lilith’s ancient legacy.

Having grown tired of humoring a spoiled monarch she considers utterly incompetent, Yzma has turned her subterranean laboratories toward formulating transmutational draughts and polymorph poisons designed to quietly eliminate the Emperor without leaving marks of treason. Caught in the middle is her imposing henchman, Kronk, whose superhuman strength is perpetually checked by a stubborn, simple moral conscience that frequently stalls Yzma’s darker ambitions.

Connections to the Wider World

Situated across the Cerulean Sea—where ancient debts, merfolk treaties, and naval routes intersect—Micchu’s stability is vital to the maritime peace of the region. Kuzco’s reckless disregard for statecraft makes the island a prime target for opportunistic outside forces, smugglers trading forbidden contraband in hidden sea caves, and auditors of cosmic bargains who track the broken responsibilities of mortal rulers. Should the emperor be displaced or transformed, the resulting power vacuum could rupture the delicate balance between the mountain kingdom, the oceanic powers of the deep, and the continental trade routes.
