⚔ Session Notes Session #21

The Kraken’s Tooth — Preparation

Location Pegport, Neverland
Players Bambi, Elora, Maevis, Ranga, Xander

✦ Session Summary

Kuso runs away with Clingy Pete. The party learns that the Kraken's Tooth, an item of immense and ancient power, has been disturbed by a cult called the Veil-Renderers. The party researches how to fix the problem, talking to various locals.

Session Narrative

The morning after brings a seashell and a voice. Coral, Chieftain of the Merrow Council, reaches the party through the shell — a regal, grave voice that describes a shadow stirring in the abyss. The Kraken’s Tooth, an item of immense and ancient power, has been disturbed. The Veil-Renderers — a cult of deep-sea worshippers — are involved. If they are allowed to retrieve it, Neverland itself is in danger. Will the Heroes of Pegport help?

Nessa Copperhook overhears and immediately contributes her opinion of the ask’s scale. Then she provides a list of people to talk to.

Silas Barnacle, the lighthouse keeper, is a hermit by preference and an expert by accumulation. He knows the Abyssal Trench: 8,000 feet deep, cold, full of predatory jellies, terrifying aberrations, and a maelstrom of considerable size. He knows about the two great shipwrecks within it — the Harpy’s Teat and the Squall Dancer, both rumoured to be full of treasure. He knows about the Kraken’s Tooth: an enormous glowing fang, pulsing with power, the subject of a story he proceeds to tell at length. He will provide a map of the Trench in exchange for a week’s supply of Ma Gristle’s meat pies.

Ma Gristle and Ambrosius are mid-argument about the sentient bag of flour Ambrosius has apparently animated. Ma knows about the Veil-Renderers — serious cultists, vicious when interfered with, gathering on the beach during new moons for baptism rituals. The next relevant new moon is in fourteen days.

Mad Moll at Treasures of the Deep sells items of nautical and occult utility with the enthusiasm of someone who knows exactly what you’re about to need. Tilda Bramblehook has information about the smugglers’ cave and a protective scroll hidden within it — she’ll tell them where to find it if they trade the Doppelganger Blood and the Spider Silk Cloak. Godwick Cragg knows about the creatures in the Trench and how to deal with pressure. Vella Knots knows about Nibbles.

Each party member receives a vision from their deity’s messenger, delivered with characteristic style from Aphrodite’s purring encouragement to Loki’s cheerful crypticism.

DM Notes

This is a full preparation session — let the players drive their own shopping and information-gathering. The divine messenger visions should be individually tailored and delivered with the voice and personality of each deity. The Veil-Renderers’ baptism ritual description (available if the party investigates) is properly unsettling: forcible submersion, revivification, and backward re-entry into the waves.
