⚔ Session Notes Session #13

The Village of Sen

Location Village of Sen, Rekai

✦ Session Summary

The party salt to the small fishing village of Sen in search of someone to remove the curse from the ship and the crew.  Maevis and Kuso babysit Sable on the banks of the river near the ship while the rest of the party go in search of Brother Ansel who might be able to help them.  Bambi makes friends with Helga and gets the town gossip.  Along with Carra, the three of them have an epic sleepover.  Meanwhile, Xander takes care of the shrine while Brother Ansel works on the curse--which now includes Elora.  Mischievous river sprites try to steal offerings, but Xander chases them away.  Bambi and Carra go pet shopping at the Baby Dragon Bakery.  Kuso and Carra chase down Sable who escaped into the town.  Now everyone is back at the shrine awaiting Brother Ansel's return.

Session Narrative

Sen is a fishing village of modest ambitions and a shrine to a river deity that predates the current religions by several centuries. Brother Ansel tends the shrine, removes curses for a reasonable fee, and has the unflappable serenity of someone who has been dealing with other people’s supernatural problems for forty years.

The party splits productively. Maevis and Kuso remain on the riverbank with Sable — the girl has attempted to explain three times that she is perfectly capable of looking after herself, and this is true, but nobody is listening. Their afternoon is interrupted when Sable vanishes into town with the bored confidence of someone who has been watched too closely for too long, requiring a chase through Sen’s market.

Bambi, meanwhile, has found Helga, the local baker and best source of town gossip within a three-mile radius. By the time Bambi and Carra join Helga for what becomes an extended sleepover at her cottage, they know everything worth knowing about everyone in Sen, and some things worth knowing about people in the next village too.

Xander takes the practical approach: he minds the shrine while Brother Ansel prepares the components for the curse removal. This involves chasing off mischievous river sprites who have been stealing the offerings, which Xander handles with a combination of patience and a broom.

The Baby Dragon Bakery is exactly what it sounds like: a pastry shop that keeps several small, non-fire-breathing dragons as pets, available for supervised interaction. Bambi and Carra visit and acquire a dragon-shaped pastry and, depending on negotiation, possibly more.

By evening, everyone converges back at the shrine, the curse has been identified and quantified, and Brother Ansel is ready to begin removal in the morning. The curse has spread further than expected: Elora has it now too.

Key NPCs

  • Brother Ansel  —  Elderly human monk. Cheerful, practical, charges 50 gp per curse and does not haggle. Has seen worse than this, though he won’t say when.
  • Helga  —  Baker. Forties, flour-dusted, knows everyone’s business and considers sharing it a public service.

Encounters & Mechanics

River Sprites at the Shrine

4 river sprites (use Sprite stats). Non-lethal mischief encounter. DC 12 Stealth or Performance to outwit them; failure means offerings stolen and Ansel needs extra components (costs 10 gp more).

Sable Chase

Skill challenge: Athletics or Acrobatics DC 12. 3 successes before 3 failures to catch her before she leaves town.

Loot & Rewards

ItemNotes / Value
Curse Removal (Ship & Crew)Cost: 100 gp. Crew restored to full function.
Helga’s InformationLocal gossip of moderate value. One piece is actually relevant: a merchant who passed through Sen mentioned a ‘change of guard’ at the Germonian border.

DM Notes

This is a lower-stakes rest session — let the players breathe and do character scenes. The Baby Dragon Bakery is pure texture. If any player wants to buy a small dragon companion, that is an entirely reasonable thing to allow. The gossip scene can foreshadow the Germonian complications. Sable escaping is comedy that also reveals her resourcefulness.
